The Taylor Public Schools Foundation awarded 32 well-qualified students scholarships. These students all met the basic requirement of having attended Taylor School District for a minimum of two years. Each student excelled in classes related to their goals in life, and all have been accepted into universities or trade schools.
One of the sections in the Foundation Scholarship Application asks applicants to "List community and volunteer service." Foundation interviewers were very impressed with the number of students who were assisting with community projects, such as:
- Tutoring programs at Taylor Community Library
- St. John's food bank
- Volunteering at the Taylor Animal Shelter
- Shoveling snow for elderly neighbors
- Gleaner's Food Bank
- Assisting at Holland Elementary Halloween Fair
- Election inspector
- Volunteering at Beaumont Hospital
- Church child care
- Volunteering to assist at non-profit Downriver Actors Guild
Another section of the application asks "List the athletic programs, organizations and clubs you have participated in." All of the applicants were heavily involved in these areas. Many listed one or more of the following:
- Band - Jazz, Marching and Pep
- Book club
- National Honor Society
- Quiz bowl
- Student council
- Community theater
- Football, track and field, cheer, volleyball and softball
- Link crew
- Drama club
Foundation Members who served on the interview committee were impressed with the quality of education the students ofTaylor School District are receiving and only hope that the foundation can raise enough money to assist all graduates pursue their dreams.
