Welcome back, Taylor School District staff and families. We hope you have had a great summer break. Our team is ready to welcome each of you back into our schools to kick off the 2022-2023 school year.
Together, we’re going to make this year a great one. That’s the theme I’d like to focus on this year - I Matter, You Matter, We Matter.
Our district is unique in the fact that it’s made up of many different communities - including Taylor, Dearborn Heights, Brownstown, Inkster and Westland - each of which brings different backgrounds and experiences to our schools.
By embracing that and putting all of our students at the center of everything we do, we will achieve our Vision to be the innovative destination district where all succeed.
We have been working tirelessly this summer to create an environment where all of our students feel safe and can focus on learning.
With that in mind, our district will focus on Kids over Curriculum the first 2 weeks. We want to make sure all of our students are settled in, we are building strong relationships with each of them and that we are meeting their needs. Once that happens, our students will learn.
I want to share with you a few other initiatives that we have been working on:
Installing the SmartBoot Security System to help keep our students and staff safe.
Implementing highly effective instructional practices and engagement strategies for our students.
Began 2021 bond program implementation, including new playground equipment at all elementary schools this year, new furniture district wide for the 23-24 year and repairs to our parking lots.
Created an in-house English Learners department to help support the students in our district whose primary language isn’t English.
Will be expanding our LEO Award to shine our spotlight on more employees and students.
Began to incorporate the I Matter, You Matter and We Matter Program. This is an acknowledgment that we all matter in the world we live in and can make a difference in other lives. Our entire district has already been through the initial training session. This program pairs well with our efforts to improve our trauma informed practices across our district.
We know we can’t make this school year a successful one alone.
It’s going to take our entire district working together with one another - administrators, teachers, support staff, students and families.
We acknowledge that we are not perfect and still have work to do, but I am very proud of the progress we have made together. It’s important to know that everybody in our district matters, and each of us has a unique role in our success.
I’m looking forward to this school year.
Sincerely,
Griff Mills
